BBC Learning English - Comprehensive materials for intermediate to advanced ESL learners from the BBC World Service.

Dave's ESL Cafe's Student Discussion Forum - "The Internet's Meeting Place for ESL/EFL Students and Teachers from Around the World!"  This site allows ESL students and teachers to help each other with any problems they may be facing.

ESL Partyland.com – This site has 75 interactive quizzes, 15 discussion forums, interactive activities on a variety of topics, a chat room, and lots of great links for students.  Additionally, it provides many lesson plans and reproducible materials for teachers to use in class.

ESLDesk.com – This site, maintained by an ESL student, contains vocabulary lists, grammar help, ESL quizzes, spelling tests, reading help tools, and many other resources useful in learning English as a second Language.

Free English Teaching and Learning Materials for ESL – Provides over a thousand pages of free information and resources for both teachers and students. All materials are organized by skill and level for quick and easy access.

TOEFL: Test of English as a Foreign Language - The TOEFL test measures your ability to communicate in English in colleges and universities. You can take the test as an Internet-based Test (IBT) or a paper-based test (PBT), depending on which format is offered at your test center.

VOA News - The Voice of America, which first went on the air in 1942, is a multimedia international broadcasting service funded by the U.S. government through the Broadcasting Board of Governors. VOA broadcasts more than 1,000 hours of news, information, educational, and cultural programming every week to an estimated worldwide audience of more than 115 million people.  You can listen to and read the news at the same time.

America's Literacy Directory - lists adult literacy class offerings (searchable by zip code) in communities nationwide.

CUNY Language Immersion Program - The CUNY Language Immersion Program offers students who have been admitted to a City University of New York (CUNY) college the opportunity to spend more time learning English in an academic environment before formally enrolling in college courses. The Program operates 25 hours a week, with day and evening sessions available.

Eastern Suffolk Boces ESL/ Bilingual Programs

Literacy Suffolk, Inc.  – recruits and trains community volunteers to tutor Suffolk County adults in two areas: Basic Literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). The Basic Literacy program is geared towards adults who read and write below a sixth grade level. ESOL teaches conversational English to people whose native language is not English.

Classical Language Instruction Project at Princeton University – This site contains samples of Greek and Latin prose and poetry texts, read by various scholars and in different styles.  It is designed to help students of the classical languages to acquaint themselves with the sound of Greek and Latin and to practice their own reading skills.

Forvo - The Pronounciation Guide - The largest word pronunciation dictionary in the world, now with translations. All the words in all the languages pronounced by native speakers.

Lexicool - A directory of "all" the online bilingual and multilingual dictionaries and glossaries freely available on the Internet. It is a resource intended for translators, linguists, language students and all those interested in foreign languages.
